The mapping process I was talking about is what is done in MS CRM. When importing you are first asked for the entity or business object that you want import. Then you are asked to map all of the columns of data from the import file to attributes of the entity/business object. The UI is a simple list of columns in the import file on the left and on the right you have drop down field directly across from it. The drop down is a list of all attributes available for the entity/business object. You map each column to a specific attribute.
Once complete you are given a preview of the imported data. Also, all imports are logged in the platform. If for some reason you need to back out the import you can go to the log and select the import process that you want to back out.
