Report Groups

I'm trying to define a report that will accumulate (count) member types within a unit. A unit may have any number of members of different types.

Unit ID Type A Type B Type C Type D Total A+B+C+D

I read the documentation about grouping objects beginning with a like element i.e. Unit ID. But in the design mode when I try to use the group band dialogue as defined in the documentation all the properties in the dialog box are disabled accept "height", "Visible", and "New Page". I can't seem to pin down the order of steps to take in designing the report. The documentation just takes you in a circle with no clear step by step instructions to follow.

I have a query that groups the business object by order of Unit ID and Member types.

Can anyone provide a simple order of steps to take to accomplish the report design?

In report designer menu:

1) Edit | Bands
2) Postion cursor to "column header" band name
3) Click Add

You will now get new band form.

All fields except height will be available & not greyed out.

Thanks, that enabled the group properties. But it still leaves me total confused. I want to print only one line for each unit with the total of each member type for the unit.

<<COUNT NSCPers WHERE(NSCPers.MemberType='A')>> etc. then print those accumulations when the unit code changes and start the count again for the next unit code. I entered NSCPers.UnitCode in the "Condition" field.

What I'm unclear of is where to place the tags "Detail", "Summary" ????

I'm sorry but the documentation on this is so fragmented I can't follow it.

The Details band will show a line on the report for each instance of the BO so you don't want to put it there.

I have the unit code printing on change. However even though I remove detail it is still printing enough blank pages between the unit code break for all the detail that would be there. I can't seem to eliminate the printing of blank lines of detail. Does just removing the detail band by un-checking "Visible" stop detail printing or is there some other step to take?

Also the count accumulations don't restart at the unit code break but continue to accumulate. That's probably something to do with context which I can probably figure out.

When I go back to the design editor the changes I made with the band edit are no longer in place. Every thing is checked "Visible" again. Is that normal?

Make the Detail band a height of 0 points

count accumulations don't restart at the unit code break but continue to accumulate

Right click on the item on the report holding the COUNT & select Properties. Check out "Evaluation details" button

That's the ticket. Who knew? I'm sure it's in the documentation somewhere. What's needed is AwareIM for Dummies. I'll work on it.
