Display message during rule execution

I think I get it that you can't invoke functions during rule execution that require user interaction. But my rule is designed to make a change under certain circumstances when a record is saved and I would like to advise the user that the change has occurred. Naturally, using DISPLAY MESSAGE doesn't work in this case.

Any ideas?

You might try a Plain Text attribute that is conditionally shown / not shown using a dynamic READ PROTECT rule.

Why not use a BO rule which DISPLAYs your MESSAGE if the BO attribute WAS CHANGED ?

Is it important to display the message to the user at some point during the process, or will immediately after the process (for information only) suffice ?

It's just that the value of an attribute will be changed by the system and the user should be notified. I'm not sure what you are suggesting. I thought about DISPLAY something AS MESSAGE, which might work but I have tried it yet.

I wish that DISPLAY MESSAGE like box must be included in B'OBJECT'S RULES also,

as many times it requires to provide information to user when a new object is created, then it is very useful

You can hide the standard button & use a Custom Button that not only saves the current BO, but runs a process. The process can include a DISPLAY MESSAGE.

Create a rule on the BO concerned as follows -

IF BO.Attribute WAS CHANGED THEN
DISPLAY MESSAGE 'Attribute Changed !'

When saving the rule, the system will warn that DISPLAY MESSAGE is not normally used in a BO rule, but my tests indicate that the rule works just fine - triggering the display of the message when the attribute is changed.

Well I have tried that but I get an error during rule execution.

It is not recommended to include actions that invoke interaction with the user (such as DISPLAY MESSAGE) in the rules of a business object. Such actions should be part of a process. Please see the User Guide for best practices of Aware IM development which explain why.
