Presentation comes out as jibberish - sometimes

On one of my Home Pages, I display two presentations - both are graphs. Sometimes - about half the time - one or both display as a bunch of scrunched up text jibberish. The rest of the time I get just what I asked for. It seams that if it's bad, it stays bad even if I start a new session. But if I recompile and restart the session, it may work fine. Then when it works - it works all the time. I don't think this is a bug really, but possible a memory factor or other resource issue, or just a burp with the server.

I am currently developing with the default installation including Derby db but I intend to deploy with MySQL. Perhaps I will see a difference then. In the mean time, I just wonder if anyone has seen this and if there is any advice on it.

This looks more like a browser problem than the server problem. Try to play with the caching settings of the browser or test if it happens in another browser

I've seen the problem in Firefox, IE, and Chrome.

Add to that when this occurs, I frequently get "Unknown Error" reported to me. It seems to be affected by the graph display because all other functionality continues normally.

When you have the "Unknown error" please attach the output of the Aware IM Server and Tomcat.

This also could be a memory issue. Try increasing memory allocation for the Aware IM server.

Currently on Build 1218 and this problem seems to have resolved itself. Is it possible you have done anything to affect this? I haven't touched a thing...

No, we haven't, but one of the latest builds has increased default memory allocation and this could explain it.

Actually, I did add memory to my machine recently. Is it possible that made the difference?

That's interesting. I would have thought that the client platform would have little impact other than maybe presentation speed. I am building on a Windows 7 (32 bit) Notebook which had 2GB RAM until I upp'ed it to 4GB recently. Naturally, my target audience could be running just about anything and I'm considering whether I should remove this presentation from the dashboard if it's going to be persnickety about the computer it's presented on. I also present larger version of these graphs in their own display with no problem, but I suppose the dashboard presentation is more demanding.

Damn, I wish I knew everything...

If the machine has more memory it doesn't mean that Aware IM will use this memory automatically. The amount of memory Aware IM uses is configured in the Aware IM Control Panel.
