Input Mask Confusion

I took the following from the help guide for an input mask for phone number. I knwo that it is already a selection from the drop-down list but I thought that I would try to enter this in the Input Mask field (just to get a feel for using regular expresions. Unfortunately, this did not work. Is there a problem in the way that I handled this or in the regular expression in the help guide?

Here is the regular expression for Phone Number: /$?\d{3}$? ?\d{3}[-.]\d{4}/

Any help would be benefical for me (and others I'm sure).

Some additional information:

When I try to add a record...I am unable to...nothing comes up for the business object with this input mask :o(

I figured out what I did wrong. Here are a few that I like. Maybe these will be good for someone else:

Valid Zip Code = /^\d{5}([-]\d{4})?$/

Password 1= /^[A-Za-z]\w{6,}[A-Za-z]$/ (In this first example, the password must be at least 8 characters long and start and end with a letter)

Password 2= /^\w(?=\w\d)(?=\w[a-z])(?=\w[A-Z])\w*$/ (In this second example, the password length doesn't matter, but the password must contain at least 1 number, at least 1 lower case letter, and at least 1 upper case letter)

Phone Number = /^[1-9]\d{2}-[1-9]\d{2}-\d{4}$/

US States = /^((AL)|(AK)|(AS)|(AZ)|(AR)|(CA)|(CO)|(CT)|(DE)|(DC)|(FM)|(FL)|(GA)|(GU)|(HI)|(ID)|(IL)|(IN)|(IA)|(KS)|(KY)|(LA)|(ME)|(MH)|(MD)|(MA)|(MI)|(MN)|(MS)|(MO)|(MT)|(NE)|(NV)|(NH)|(NJ)|(NM)|(NY)|(NC)|(ND)|(MP)|(OH)|(OK)|(OR)|(PW)|(PA)|(PR)|(RI)|(SC)|(SD)|(TN)|(TX)|(UT)|(VT)|(VI)|(VA)|(WA)|(WV)|(WI)|(WY))$/
