Help with Process Writing

I am trying to get a schedule to run a process. I think I have the most part of it worked out, I just can't get the process to do what I need it to do. Here is the gig. I want it to find all instances of revision where revision is expired and status = current. Then I want it to send the notification to the user who is in the responsible officer field. So my rule looks like this.

Find Revision where revision.expirydate<=Current_Date and Revision.Status='Current'
Send RevisionDue to Revision.ResponsibleOfficer

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Hi Tom,
The process didn't seem to do anything. So I thought I would make it a menu option to try it manually. What I got was a list of all the revisions. Archived and Current. From that, I go the feeling I could pick one and That appeared to send an email after I pressed the OK button. I am sure there is something obvious happening here, I am just not smart enough to pick it up

Sounds like you have defined Revision as a process input.

That should not be needed in the scenario you described.

If you look at your process, in the first tab is there anything in the right hand column? If so, move it back to the left hand column. It sounds as if you have told the process to use revision(s) that are in context but have not provided that context as an input for your process and so it is requiring you to select at least one revision.

That did the trick. The process seems to do something, but it doesn't produce the emails. So I guess I am still doing somthing wrong. I will keep plugging away at it. Thanks for the help though.

Have you looked at the logs?

Hi Tom,
When I did the test with the test version, the test log showed the emails had been sent. Now this email address has worked for all the other testing I was doing and the other messages worked. When I do the live version, I don't get any mention in the logs of anything. I am not too good with the logs. The manual showed me where to go, but frankly I don't see every thing being logged. So I am not sure where to go now. I think my rule as mentioned above should work, but I am not sure now.

Is testing & live version on the same machine? Are outgoing mail settings the same in SystemSettings?

The testing and live versions are all done on the same machine. I will send you the BSV if you want to have a look at it.

I Think I must be stupid sometimes. :oops: I have noticed a typo in the rule that is on the machine and fixed that. I have run the process from the menu item and I managed to get an email notification. The scheduled running of the process did nothing unfortunately and I cannot tell why. The other thing is that there of 2 instances of expired revisions and I only received 1 email to say that one of the revions has expired. Clearly I am doing somthing wrong and have no idea now where to look for the culperate. :cry:

I get only one instance of the business object, not the 9 expected instances. Does anyone know why that should happen. Should I get 9 individual notifications. This is what I was hoping for.

HELP!!
I have now tried to break this down to see if there is something I am doing wrong. I looked in the log and this is what I find. I can see that if I run just the top line of the process above, I get 2 instances of the Result BO found. When I put the second line back in the process, I get 1 email notification which is right, but the second one never comes through. Can anyone tell me why this is happening?

Try putting the FIND in 1 process and calling a second process which has the SEND action.

I had a go at it and the same story. I only get 1 of the notifications. The log still says it can find 2 items though. I am wondering if it has anything to do with the fact that Revision is a daughter of Document where Document can have many revisions. Either way I still would have thought that if the find process can find 2 items, then why doesn't it Send to both items.

This one has me baffled.

Instead of using Find Revision where Revision.expirydate<=Current_Date and Revision.Status='Current'

Try

Find Revision where DATE DIFFERENCE(Revision.expirydate,Current_Date )>0 and Revision.Status='Current'

In this process, on the General tab, you need to make sure "Revisions" is listed in the right hand box labeled " For this process"

It should work fine then

Hi Rocketman,
That did the trick. I am a bit slow, being a novice with the whole programming thing. I managed to get it to work with the second process. Sorry Tom, I have only just worked out what you were getting at.

Just a note for anyone else who is reading along. The Date Difference should actually be Day_Difference.
