More ? Notifications

I've been using Aware for a few years and until now have not had a need for notifications. I have looked at the sample databases, read the help, and looked over the forums and I hate to say. I'm just totally confused by how this works? :oops:

I have a BO called Site, I have another BO called Inspection. I need to be able to add several users from my BO called Contact to the Site (which is no problem) and pull the email address of each user (off the Contacts BO) into a Distribution List format like email1;email2;email3 so the notification sends to a group rather then one person.

I need the notification to send out a copy of the inspection report attachment to the distribution list when the Inspecton report IS NEW.

Where I get lost is probably very simple but my logic is just not getting this? I can't even get a simple notification to work. (Yes I've testing my incoming / outgoing email servers and authentication)

Step 1: I created a notification
Step 2. I created a BO called OutgoingInspection
Step 3. I set Intellegence on the BO of Site (this added the EmailAddress Field to that BO and I opted to use Systemsettings on the Email channel)
Step 4. I went to my Inspection BO and created a rule that states:

IF Inspection IS NEW AND SystemSettings.OutgoingEmailHost IS DEFINED Then SEND InspectionReportEmail TO Inspection.Site
CREATE Outgoing Inspection WITH OutgoingInspection.Message=InspectionReportEmail.Message,OutgoingInspection.Subject=InspectionReportEmail.Subject,OutgoingInspection.State='Sent'

You can see in the rule above I have TO Inspection.Site (I'm unsure about this but took it from the Library Sample?)

Nothing Happens :cry:

I need the first grade version step by step of even getting a simple notification working so I can re-bend my brain around the process. 😉

I know you said you are sure your SystemSettings are proper, but I'm going to show this step for the benefit of others. This step also shows a notification in it's simplest form -- just plain text -- no context of other BOs is required.

Goal of Step 1 -- Make absolutely sure that SystemSettings work properly.

a- First thing I do with BSVs that I am using to send email notifications is to make SystemSettings BO intelligent & put my email address in the newly created email address attribute.

b- I then create an outgoing email notification Called TestSystemSettings. This will just have static text in the Subject and Message area like "This is an email to test SystemSettings"

c- Create a process to SEND TestSystemSettings TO SystemSettings. I make this process an Operation of the SystemSettings default form so I can just click on it to test the Outgoing Email settings.

You can NOT send an email to a group at the moment in AwareIM. Support confirms that.

Of course, you CAN send the same email individually to more than one instance of an intelligent BO.

Do you still need help in knowing how to do that?

I do need help understanding how to get that to work. I think I have looked at this so much I'm too close to the tree to see the forrest.

To bad about not being able to send to a group. How would I do it individually? I don't want the user to have to create mutiple entries. I need them to upload a report document and then have the rules send that document out in the form of an email to mutiple email addresses.

Is it possible to pull the addresses from other fields besides the one named email address? If so, I could create mutiple fields that each held an address and then create a rule for each field? (but I really don't know what I'm talking about) :oops:

This may not assist you as you are trying to build your distribution group from within a BO. I do send notifications to email distribution groups by simply sending the email to an email account on my exchange server which onforwards the email to a distribution group. Works well but the distribution group is maintained within exchange and not within the BSV.
