Calendar issue

Hi,

I'm presently evaluating Aware IM v4 and am pleased with many of the features so far.

This may be straight forward but I can't see an obvious way to achieve it -

how can I configure a calendar/appointment object so that a click on the + symbol causes a form other than the default main form of the appointment to appear. Is it possible to have the + click invoke the opening of other forms within the business space ?

Sorry if this has been previously answered, but some help would be much appreciated.

Hi Peter,

yes, it is possible to do that - you just need to customize the default form of the Appointment object. The default form is the one that has "used for creation" and "used for editing" checkboxes ticked (or you can have different forms used for creation and editing of the object).

Open the layout of this form and feel free to add/delete attributes and/or move them around.

I did experiment with adjusting the default form, but hoped it was possible to directly activate an existing form using the + click. Is this not possible ?

I'm also curious to know how to display scheduled events from an event business object in calendar format ?

Can you point me to an example or explain how ?

A non-default form can normally be used in a process via EDIT USING ... action, but this is not available for the calendar - it has to use the default form.

Not sure what you mean by "displaying scheduled events from an event business object in calendar format". To display an event in calendar format an Event object must be a member of the Appointment group and you need to define a query that displays events in calendar format.

To clarify -

I have a business object called Events in which data concerning events is stored (date, place, customer and other fields too). I would like to display a field from those stored events, the place field, in a calendar based on the event date.

Then I would like users of the system to click the + sign in the calendar and be presented with a form which enables them to create a new event for the date selected. The default form doesn't seem to cope with that.

Any suggestions ?

1- Is the Events BO in the Appointment group as support mentioned?

2- What happens when you say "...doesn't seem to cope with that"

By the way, the following attributes are required an an instance of an Appointment Group BO: StartTime, EndTime, Subject.

Thanks for your comments.

Firstly, no the Events BO isn't in the Appointments group. It's just a standard BO listed under 'Business Objects'. Is it possible to add it to the Appointments group without creating it as an appointment object ?

The StartTime, EndTime and Subject attributes are useful for Events, but there are also other attributes of my Events BO which aren't part of the default structure of an appointment object.

Do I have to begin with an appointment object template and add extra attributes to it - thus constructing an Events object which is an appointment object ?

Peter,

You can add your existing Events BO to the Appointments by double clicking on Appointments. There you will be able to add Events to the group. When you click Save, AwareIM will recognize that required attributes are not present in your Events BO & it will ask you if you want them added automatically. Say OK to this.

You should then be able to customize your default Events form and have it appear as you'd like when clicking the + sign. You might want to use a rule to make Event.Subject = Event.Place so that Place will appear on your Calendar view.

That might well sort my problem.

One last question - is it possible to open another form unrelated to the calendar (eg a new staff member form) from the + button in the calendar ?
Or am I hoping for too much ?

The + button will only access the default form of the BO being shown on the calendar.
