Using SET action

I've been trying to use the SET action in a process and haven't gotten past the sentax check. So far, the examples in the User's guide just don't work. What I want to so is to set an attribute value and commit to the database. The object is already open for editing. Secondly, I want to log the user out.

So, change an attribute from Yes to No, save the record and log out. Can't seem to do any of that yet it seems simple. Advice is welcome.

You don't need to use SET to change a Yes/No attribute from Yes to No. The rule would be:

Customer.YnAttributeName='No'

I am not aware of a way to have a rule to Logout the user. The only two ways are:

1) use a menu item of type Logout
2) timeout

Feel free to further describe what you are trying to accomplish & maybe there are alternative ways to do it.

PS -- I have successfully used the SET action to process incoming email. In that case, the SET action properly parsed the values of the email to update instances of a BO.

My purpose is about that simple. At some point, the user performs a certain function. When that is complete, I want to set their system access to 'No' and log them out because they're done.

I've tried it your way without success. Is there another action I must do to commit the change to the db?

Are they 1) running a process 2) editing and saving a BO 3) etc

What is that function doing?

I want to set their system access to 'No'

Are you storing this in a RegularUser attribute?

and log them out because they're done.

Not possible that I am aware of.

Still no luck on this. Requirement is very simple. Consider that no record is open for editing. Menu item call my process. The process needs to change one attribute in one business object from a Yes to a No. That's it.

It seems I would use a combination of SET and UPDATE. If I just state BO.ATTR='Yes', does nothing.

And for the life of me I don't understand the SET command as described in the docs. They don't provide real-world examples, and I don't get it.

SET action is really used for processing/parsing incoming email. That is the example giving in both the User Guide and the Rule Language Reference. It is NOT the right approach for your example.

1- How is the BO that you are trying to change to 'Yes' put into context?

I will assume for a minute that you are storing info about the user that is logged in. In that case your process would be 1 rule:

LoggedInRegularUser.YNattributeName='Yes'

In the case of LoggedInRegularUser, you would not need to indicate a Process Input because LoggedInRegularUser and SystemSettings are always in context in AwareIM. For any other BO, you would need to either indicate the BO as Process Input or use a FIND action, etc to put the BO in context.
