email with attachments in database

A client has an AWAREIM system that collects all incomming email and files it according to the sender. There are quite a lot of spam type messages and they have been complaining about the database getting slower.

I am concerned that a large number of emails particularly those with attachments may be slowing the database.

If this is the case, Is there a way I can purge non needed email records. Can I set up a mechanism to remove attachments or extract attachments to external files?

Wouldn't you purge unneeded emails just like any other instance of a BO, just by using a process to FIND and DELETE selected instances?

To save attachments, see syntax below for exporting an attachment from the CRM sample application:

EXPORT DOCUMENT ReceivedEmail.Attachment1 TO FOLDER

One other thought on spam deletion. When a user identifies an incoming email as spam, I'm assuming you have an attribute that the user turns "on" to flag it. Using the FIND action to periodically DELETE those so flagged will be simple.

On your question of deleting attachments, one way is to have an attibute called SystemSettings.BlankDoc of attribute type. Never assign a document to that attribute. It can then be used to clear out document attributes using syntax:

BoName.Doc1=SystemSettings.BlankDoc

If there is an easier way, I'd love to hear it.

Hey guys, I'm in the same boat here. We need to extract the attachments from any mail coming in and delete them (we have the mail running in Outlook as well, Aware is just a copy of the mail for tracking purposes)

Is there a newer better way to do this? We basically just want the message coming through.

What if you set the Document as Calculated attribute...and assign it a blank value ?
