Page Break before a sub document

I havde a master document Report and several subdocuments which start one after another. I would like to make some or all start on a new page.

Is there a tag or a setting to force a subdocument to start on a new page?

No, you can only put certain bands on a new page, not sub-reports

OK then How do I write a report that iterates subreports in bands? :lol:

I have tried nesting a blank report with just a new page checked in one of the headers but this always gives me two pages minimum.

Any other ideas I can try for a workaround?

Any possibility of adding a pagebreak tag to the wishlist?

ps I only happened to be trying this because it was suggested by support in a previous paid support ticket eg as in the Library application.

Really old post I know... but just found a pressing need for a page break tag or a way to force it.

I think that if you add a new section and check the 'start new page' in the section properties dialogue this will do what you are after.

nlarson - when you say "section" - do you mean a "band"?

I need a page break element again.

My situation:

a big report, not complex but a big form with lots of yes/no
it will be about 8 A4 pages long
I can't make any band height > A4 sized page (eg about 800px) becaue it needs to print on A4

There seems to be no way of making the thing respect page break other than:

Breaking my report into subreports
Break it into bands

Surely there is an easier way, can someone provide a tip?

Actually forget 2. above - bands don't work. It seems you HAVE to use subreports.

Create two documents, the main one with a subreport

In the subreport document go to BANDS and add a band called GROUP
Edit the GROUP band condition of Printing at the bottom of the form

and set it to Start on New Page

Each Item in your subreport will be printed on a new page. The new page will be started when the item in the report meets the condition

So it can be a new page for each item, or if you have your items with a grouping attribute, each page could start with the new group if the condition of new page refers to the grouping attribute in your item

That technique works well if you have lots of items (ie instances) printing.

Unfortunately I don't. I just have a lot of static text with attributes all in the one instance.

Any other ideas?

Without knowing to much about your application,the only thing I can think of is to divide your current object into a MainObject with MainObjectItems that represent the static text.

Then set up the front page with whatever text and then make your page 2, 3, 4 ...etc etc MainObjectItems.

By doing this, you will be able to control what text goes on which page by placing the text in the relevant MainObjectItems line item controlled by your Group conditional printing under BAND group settings.

It sounds like a real mission to get something as simple as a page feed tag into your document, but support don't seem to understand the need. I spent the last two weeks putting a complicated document together and basically had to go with this concept which in the end worked out very well.
