VP: search criteria in one panel +results query in 2nd panel

I would like to have a Visual Perspective where the search criteria are shown in 1 panel & the search results are in a second target panel.

I can't seem to find a way to do this. Is it possible?

Have you tried to specify one panel as the target for another one? (this can be done when configuring content panels)

Yes, it seems that the results stay in the 1st panel & not the target panel.

Do you have a specific scenario that you know will achieve this?
