Month as a string?

Is there a builtin function that returns the name of a Month from a date as a string?

C.F there is a DAY_OF_WEEK function that returns the name of the day as a string and DAY_NUMBER_IN_WEEK returns the ordinal value of the day.

I can only see a MONTH function that gives the integer value of the day and no corresponding string function.

or am I blind as well as stupid.

ps a mate of mine pointed out that both he and I suffer from "Cupboard Blindness" where we cant see things in cupboards (like perfectly useable food) that are obvious to our spouses. Now I dont feel guilty about it at all.

Not sure exactly where you want use the month but if you want to show the month in a report of a presentation you can try this;

<<CURRENT_DATE, MMMM dd, yyyy>>

This will show the date like this; January 21,2008

I think it was a strain of Cupboard Blindness called User Guide Blindness.

Sounds like you might want to do this from page323 of User Guide:

AS_STRING(MONTH(SomeBO.SomeDateAttribute))

Well, I think you would like to have it in text like: january, february, and so on?

I can´t find that either.

(or does Toms AS_STRING translate it?)

So I guess you have to translate it your self with alots of if checks.

MONTH_OF_YEAR would be a nice function.

There is no function that would return name of the month as a string (AS_STRING won't do this!), but if you want it for presentation purposes use date time format as Christopher pointed out.

Thanks everybody,

I want to use the month name (and the year) as a group band in a report.
I guess I can write a rule, its just that it seemed to be a bit of an oversight to have functions for Day of week and not for Month.

How about guys?
