How can I create "clone"; or "duplicate"

I'm stuck and hope someone can help. I'm sure this is easy but I'm lost.

I have a BO called "Case". I have users that need to create new cases and most of the time more then 90% of the information is the same.

The case BO has several shortcuts

Is it possible to create a button on the Form that will duplicate the record and allow the user to simply change a few fields and save for a new record? Can it be done while keeping the shortcut associations?

Any help would be fantastic.

I created a little test BSV to try this. If you would like a copy, just PM me your email address & ask for Z_CloseTest BSV.

Here is how it works:

1- 2 BOs
- ParentBO
-- 2 PlainText attributes: Attribute1 & Attribute2
-- 1 reference attribute: RefAttribute of type RefBO
- RefBO
-- 1 PlainText attribute: Attribute1

2- ParentBO form has an Operation which runs process in #3 below

3- Process
- Process Input: ParentBO
- Rule: ENTER NEW ParentBO WITH ParentBO.Attribute1=ThisParentBO.Attribute1, ParentBO.Attribute2=ThisParentBO.Attribute2, ParentBO.RefAttribute=ThisParentBO.RefAttribute

Tom, thanks so much. This worked perfect. This is really a cool little addition that can make some data entry requirements a simple one or two click process.

I can get this working, but if the reference attribute on the form has multiple items then it only clones the first item

Example : I have an Invoice object with an Items reference object. If the Invoice contains more then one Item, then the first Item is entered in the new object leaving the rest of the items behind

any clues on how to get all the items over

I know it's been a while since this post started but I was trying to accomplish the same thing here. I was hoping someone would be able to email me a sample bsv that would accomplish a duplication of a business object. We have "Products" that we enter and have misc info including ship date, quantity, vendor, item type, shipping address. Instead of having people enter all this information manually for each "product" we want the user to be able to duplicate the "product" and just change the one thing they needed to change.

Try a process something like the following. Basically you need to have a button fire a process that creates a new BO and then assign those values you want predefined(copied over) in the process.

On the General Tab of the process you need to have the BO you are trying to duplicate setup as the input. Meaning this process would only be able to be fired off when you have the BO that you wish to duplicate in context.

ENTER NEW History WITH History.AssignTo=History.AssignTo,History.Contact=History.Contact,History.FollowUp='Yes'

Ok I didn't get it to work but I got closer. I got some help from AwareIM support team through a support ticket but I'm still not clear on how I'm supposed to do this (im a newbie). Here's what I have so far...

DupeProcess1:

Inputs:Campaign and Product

Rule1: CREATE Product WITH Product.Approved=Product.Approved,Product.Buyout=Product.Buyout,Product.Campaign=Product.Campaign,Product.FinishedSize=Product.FinishedSize,Product.Finishing=Product.Finishing
INSERT ThatProduct IN Campaign.Products 

Rule2:CREATE Campaign WITH Campaign.Name=ThisCampaign.Name

DupeProcess2:

Rule1:FIND Product WHERE Product IN ThisCampaign.Products
DupeCampaign1

If I have a button execute Process1....
Step 1: It will ask me to select a campaign
Step 2: will ask me to select a Product.
Step 3: It will duplicate that product but insert it to the campaign that I chose in step1, which is what I want.

2 problems with this... When it asks me to select what products I want to duplicate it doesn't ask from what campaign I want to copy it from. Another problem is that It doesn't let me select more than 1 product, which is why I created the Process2. I was reading somewhere on this forum that you need to call a process from within a process to be able to apply your rules to multiple items.

I need this button to ask the user to select what campaign they want to copy the products from and to. For example... I have an empty Xmen4Campaign and I need to populate it with all the Xmen3Campaign products. So Ideally I push the button and it asks me to select a campaign, which, in this case, would be Xmen3Campaign and then it will ask me to select the destination which , in this case, would be Xmen4Campaign. I don't want it to ask me for what products i want to copy over. I want to copy all of the Xmen3Campaign products over. FIND Product WHERE Product IN ThisCampaign.Products

Hi,

I think that your problem is that you don't have a good enough grasp on context yet, you might want to read up on context in the user guide.

If you call a process with inputs and those inputs are not already defined, it will ask you to define them. Generally you want to define the inputs first. For example, if you call a process from a form, that specific object will already be in context. If you add your process to a query row, that specific object will already be in context and you won't be prompted for the input.

Similarly, it is common to have a process that finds the objects that you want to put into context ( FIND Product where Product IN ThisCampaign), you can choose whether you wish to find all instances or only one instance. You then pass these items in context over to a second process where the object is an input (i.e. Product). The second process will then know to work with those specific instances. I may not have explained this very well but the user guide does.
