Customer self registration

I wish to implement an automated customer registration feature in my application, where the customer is emailed a random password after they have submitted the registration form containing basic information

This would be similar to the one in the Library example i.e. "register" but with the password being system generated and then emailed to the customer, rather than the customer inserting the password them self.

The login name should become the email address, and the system should react immediately after the customer has submitted the form.

To summarise

Customer supplies basic detail including email address and submits
System inserts the email address into the login name attribute
System creates random password and inserts into the password field and then emails password to customer.
Customer logs in and can change password.

Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to implement this

A simple way of doing this is to set password to the record's ID. To implement add a rule to your Customer object

If Customer IS NEW Then
Customer.Password=Customer.ID

Sorry, I only replied to your question 3, I thought it was the critical one. Question 1 requires design and information cross check rules, Q2 is a simple rule, emailing is also a standard function as well as Q4 customer login and change of password.
