Return from Presentation

Hi,

I have read all of the caveats about the browser back button and I deploy without providing the user a back button on their browser instance.

However, I am providing a button from a summary report(custom presentation) that links to a detailed report(custom presentation) for each grouped item. The only way that I have found so far for the user to return to the first custom presentation is to use the browser back button.

I would like to put a button on the second presentation that links back to the first presentation using something like <a href="#" onClick="history.go(-1)">Back</a>
<input type=button value="Back" onClick="history.go(-1)">

Any help on the correct syntax if this is possible would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Pete,

You can place a hyperlinked element on the second presentation to display the first presentation. See presentations on object Manufacturer in Ordering sample application for an example of using hyperlinks.

Thanks for your response as always. I am already using a graphical link from the first presentation to the second presentation as per your example. What I am trying to do is to return to the first presentation from the second one. Since the first presentation is based on a query with a condition that is "Ask at runtime", I don't really want to just point back to the first presentation because it will prompt the user for the condition each time they jump out and jump back.

It works seamlessly though if I just use the browser back button (which is hidden from the regular user) to go back from the second presentation to the first presentation. Is there a way to use the hyperlink operation of a button image on the second presentation to duplicate the browser back button functionality? The javascript code that I would normally use to do this on a regular website is not being accepted by the second presentation so I am guessing that it is a syntax issue.

No, at the moment you cannot duplicate functionality of the Back button.
