Record Level Access

I'm testing a trial version for use in a membership system. Most of what I want to do seems covered and I understand enough to have imported data from and existing MSAccess system, created queries, rules for particular attributes etc. I think I understand access levels.

Our member records are organized by region, sub region, and chapter using a 6 character code prefixed to all records. i.e. 054AXV is region 5; sub 4, and chapter AXV. I want to be able, in a query for instance, to limit access by AXV to only 054AXV records, the sub region staff should have access to only 054 records and the region staff should have access to only 05 records.

Is thee a way to accomplish this that I'm not seeing in the documentation?

Hi Vins,

You can add protection rules like the following to your objects:

If NOT (LoggedInStaff.Status='Region' AND MyObject.Code STARTSWITH LoggedInMember.Code)
Then READ PROTECT MyObject FROM Staff

If NOT (LoggedInStaff.Status='Chapter' AND MyObject.Code ENDSWITH LoggedInMember.Code)
Then READ PROTECT MyObject FROM Staff

This will ensure that protected object instances will not be visible to users anywhere in the system including query results, object forms, reports, etc.
