Accessing Document from a URL

pixerp

We have developed a java plugin to store a BO document filename and path into an attribute.

Thus, we can export a BO document to the filesystem and edit that document using 'file:///'+BOdoc.FilePath from an HTML link in a form. Of course, we can import it back to the BOdoc using Import document action (as full path is known). And it works.

Now, we need to perform some actions (run a process) before exporting the document.

So, instead of the HTML link, we tried to use Display Url 'file:///.....' within a process. But this doesn't work. Nor does the CONTENTS_URL function.
Probably because they both expect starting with http://, no ?

So, how can we use either :

. a URL like 'file:///' in a process rule, or

. a process call + the href=file:///... in the same HTML link of a form ?

Thanks

URL_CONTENTS function definitely wouldn't work because it only works for HTTP sites, but DISPLAY URL action should work in theory. When you are saying that it doesn't, what happens? Is there an error message? Are you sure that your file URL is correct?

My HTML form cell contains :
HTML: <a href='file:///<<OutgoingLetter.DocPath>>'Edit document</a>

This opens the document exported to the filesystem without problem.

When trying to use DISPLAY URL 'file:///+<<OutgoingLetter.DocPath>>' :

. Left + Main Panel get blanked out and the Browser Status says : Terminated

. Tomcat Log - Process ViewDocPath invoked from operation in Table of items (OutgoingLetter) - Form "Organization details, section(2) Communication histoty" :

.......

Does it help ?

Well, apparently this URL is not being recognized by the servlet engine and I have absolutely no idea why. Can you export the file into any folder under AwareIM/Tomcat/webapps/AwareIM? In this case you will be able to use a relative URL to your file which will not requie a "file" pefix.

tford

pixerp,

Would you be willing to share your java plugin?

Thanks,
Tom

Has anyone been able to import a document using a URL in a process?

I have an audio file stored on another server that I would like to import into AwareIM.

I have BO with a field that contains the URL and I am trying to import the file via a process with the following command:
IMPORT DOCUMENT BO.AudioFile FROM BO.URL

I get an error that the file was not found. I am not sure, but the URL may not be in the correct format.

FYI: if I do
DISPLAY URL BO.URL
the audio file plays in the browser. This is cool, but I also want the actual file stored in AwareIM.

Hi Bob - did you ever find a solution to this? We're trying to do exactly the same thing with a different file type (a picture).

BobK

Nope, never got this to work.

I also have a need for something like this. It can probably be done with a custom solution like this:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3938534/download-file-to-server-from-url

BUT I would rather have it built into Aware IM. Support, any chance we can get a native feature for this? Thanks
