Programmatically changing Visual Perspective

Hi,

I understand that a single access level can have multiple visual perspectives and that you can switch from one to another using a menu item.

What I would like to do is to create an initialization rule that switches the user over to an alternate visual perspective (menu) based on the one of the attributes for that particular regular user. I have played around with using a rule action: DISPLAY URL 'showAppPresentation.do?showPresentation=true&presName=Employee2' but it loads the complete perspective into the Main Frame and so I end up with two menus. Is there a way to do this?

Not at the moment. We should really add an action to show a visual perspective.

Hi,
This is a bit of a deal breaker for me. I think that the ability to easily flip back and forth between visual perspectives based on rules would really open up the flexibility of the menu system.

Is this something that would be quite easy to implement that I could pay for? Please PM me about this.

An update for other users: I am having this work done and it will be available in a new version next week to all. I think that this may be of use in larger, more complex applications. I was boxing myself into a corner with too many access levels and menus and scripts based on access levels which you needed to update everytime you added an access level.

Now I will be able to add flags in the regular user business object which can be used to determine which menu the user sees on login or whenever I want to change it in operation mode.

I hope that somebody else benefits from this new capability too.

The new action has been implemented in build 967. The action is called DISPLAY PERSPECTIVE

Thanks very much for the fast response! The new functionality works perfectly. Also, whatever you did to the 'running as a service' has fixed the problem that I was having and is working for me again now. Great work guys.

Great work guys! This is exactly what I love about this company: the can do, will do attitude. Most companies will moan its not in their development roadmap, etc. etc. while the Aware guys just get on and get it done!

Oh and another thing: I was having the same problem, running as a service in windows 2003 server. The problem is now solved, as it miraculously works for me as well.
