I would like to host my own Aware Server.

I have a fresh of install of Ubuntu 6.10 (desktop) and Aware IM running.
I also have my own domain with Dynamic DNS service from zoneedit.com.

My router is set up to assign a static LAN IP to my server, which is set to receive on that IP.

I understand that this is the standard way of accessing Aware via internet: http://mydomain.com:8088/AwareIM/logonOp.do?domain=mybusinessspace

If I had static IP, I suppose I would simply forward my domain to this address.

Please tell me how to make it possible, using dynamic dns, to allow users to access my home-served Aware site using my http://mydomain.com.

After a bit of thought, the only thing I can come up with is having two domains.

The first forwarded to the second, which has dynamic dns, using the Aware information (i.e. http://seconddomain.com:8080/Aware/logonOp.jsp do? domain=business-space-name)

Seems like that would work.

That would probably work.

By the way you can configure Aware IM to use the standard HTTP port 80 instead of 8080 in which case you will not have to specify any port in the URL.

1) Assuming I change the port to 80, can I instruct my server to redirect requests from simply domain.com to domain.com/Aware/logonOp.jsp do? domain=businessspace ??

2) Is this how to change the port in Tomcat?:

"The file to change is server.xml located in AwareRoot/Tomcat/conf. Search for 8080 and change the line starting with
<Connector port="8080"

You may also want to change the UIConfig.props file located in the BIN directory to include the following line:
OperationMode = http://localhost:portNo/AwareIM/logonOp.jsp

This only affects where the Configuration Tool goes when you press the Operation button. The main change is the first one - it will force Tomcat to listen to a different port."

You need to check with the company where your domain is registered to see if they provide redirection services where you can nominate a URL for a domain name.
