case sensitive searches -- workaround?

I understand that searches of a Derby database are case sensitive. 🙁

Does anyone have a workaround so that you can do non-case sensitive searching of a Derby database?

It sure seems like Aware IM should be able to provide some sort of function to work around the limitations of Derby & provide non-case sensitive searches. If logic like that describribed on the post can do it, I would think that somehow a function could be designed to work around it also???
