A Developer Wish for AwareIM in the AI Era
I have been thinking about where RAD platforms like AwareIM fit into the rapidly evolving world of AI.
As someone who has worked with AwareIM for many years and appreciates the speed and productivity that a RAD platform can provide, I have one personal wish for its future:
I would love to see AwareIM provide a secure connector or interface that allows AI agents to work directly with the development environment.
Imagine being able to connect an AI coding agent to an AwareIM application and, with appropriate permissions, allow it to understand or assist with:
Creating and modifying Business Objects
Creating attributes and relationships
Building queries
Writing or suggesting AwareIM rules
Creating processes
Understanding an application’s existing structure
Reviewing rules and identifying possible issues
Generating repetitive application components
Helping developers understand an unfamiliar BSV
Assisting with documentation and testing
The intention would not be for AI to replace the AwareIM developer. Quite the opposite.
It could make an experienced AwareIM developer significantly more productive.
AwareIM already gives developers something very valuable: the ability to build business applications rapidly without writing everything from the ground up. AI agents could become another layer on top of that strength.
For example, instead of asking an AI assistant:
“How should I design this database?”
we could eventually ask:
“Create the required Business Objects, relationships and initial rules for this module in my development environment.”
The developer would still review, refine and approve the implementation, but a considerable amount of repetitive work could potentially be accelerated.
Why I believe this is important
The software-development landscape is changing extremely quickly.
Developers today can use AI tools to generate code, understand existing projects, refactor applications, create tests, write documentation and even perform development tasks through agent-based workflows.
This creates an important challenge for traditional RAD platforms.
If developers cannot bring modern AI capabilities into their existing development environment, some may eventually feel compelled to move toward platforms where AI-assisted development is more deeply integrated.
For long-time developers, that transition is not necessarily something they want.
Years have been invested in learning the platform, developing expertise, creating reusable solutions and building businesses around that knowledge.
If those developers have to migrate simply to participate in the next generation of AI-assisted software development, there is a loss on several sides:
a loss for the community, a loss of accumulated developer expertise, and potentially a loss for the RAD platform itself.
I would much rather see the opposite happen.
Give existing developers AI superpowers
Instead of requiring developers to leave RAD platforms to take advantage of AI, I hope platforms such as AwareIM can expose their development capabilities to AI agents in a controlled and secure manner.
It does not necessarily need to start with full autonomous development.
A structured API, connector, MCP-style interface or another controlled mechanism could gradually expose capabilities such as:
Read application structure → understand metadata → query objects and rules → propose changes → developer approval → apply changes.
Security and control would obviously be critical. Developers should determine exactly what an agent can read, create or modify, and important changes should be reviewable before being committed.
But even a limited first implementation could open many possibilities.
An opportunity for a new chapter
I believe AwareIM still has one of the fundamental advantages that made RAD platforms attractive in the first place: speed of application development.
AI does not have to compete with that advantage.
It could multiply it.
Combining the speed of RAD with the reasoning and automation capabilities of modern AI agents could give existing developers an opportunity to build applications even faster while continuing to use the platform and expertise they have developed over many years.
This is simply my personal wish as an AwareIM developer and someone who wants to see the platform and its community continue to grow.
I would love to see AwareIM open a bridge between its RAD environment and the emerging world of AI agents.
It could give new life to the platform, help experienced developers remain competitive, attract a new generation of developers, and allow the community to participate fully in this very exciting phase of software development.
Rather than asking developers to choose between RAD and AI, perhaps the future can be:
RAD + AI.
