Regular Hosting or Cloud

For transfer my application on the web, I currently have a website with web hosting for $4/month. I could install my app through this web hosting using a subdomain.
However, I was wondering what you think would be best. Web hosting at $4/month or pay for a Cloud server at $34/month.
Is it worth going to a cloud server and if so why is it better ?

I don't see how a web hosting service for $4/month would work. I doubt they would let you install the AwareIM application on a shared web hosting service. You will probably only have access to the web root folder via FTP and a MySQL database which is the standard when it comes to web hosting. Tomcat will need to run somewhere.

Seems to me that you will need your own VPS and a proper firewall. As well as an off-site backup that you can trust.

This may give you some insights

I'd like to add some pros of running a VPS:

Easy scalability if you need to extend the hard drive, add more RAM, or vCPUs.
Possibility to move the Virtual Machine file to a completely different host with ease.
Possibility to get a backup of the whole Virtual Machine file, much easier and safer to restore data this way, rather than running a Full Metal Restore if you installed AwareIM directly on the hardware.
The Virtual Machine file can be exported and mounted in your file system, and browsed via Explorer.

and those bastards charge $10/core for Windows license.
Other services charge a lot less for this aspect.
