Avoid Duplicate Entries in Attributes

I am experiencing a problem on what I believe is a simple operation.

I am attempting to use a rule to validate data to prevent duplicate entries on a certain business object.

As background, I am setting up an object Called Inventory

The attributes of the inventory are as follows.

Inventory
DeviceType - (4 choices)
Serial number
Tech

The rule I am currently using is as follows:

If EXISTS Inventory WHERE (Inventory.DeviceType=ThisInventory.DeviceType AND Inventory.SerialNumber=ThisInventory.SerialNumber) Then
REPORT ERROR 'Duplicate or invalid serial number detected.'

The problem I am experiencing is the fact that, once in operation mode, I receive the error message on every item I attempt to enter.

Any help would be appreciated.

This has been documented several times on this forum. The problem is that the instance being created is included in the search and has to be explicitly excluded in the rule like so (check the last condition):

If EXISTS Inventory WHERE (Inventory.DeviceType=ThisInventory.DeviceType AND Inventory.SerialNumber=ThisInventory.SerialNumber AND Inventory.ID <> ThisInventory.ID) Then
REPORT ERROR 'Duplicate or invalid serial number detected.'

Thank you that worked well, I guess i did not understand the ".ID" part of the rule.
