Evaluation Install Fails

Hi Folks

Attempting to install the evaluation copy today on XP SP2 with MySQL 5.0.27.

First off - when the install gets to test the server link it fails (even with the right MySQL User Name and Password). The install then hangs and does'nt contine or close.

The uninstall hangs too, and leave a good number of folders including JDK and Tomcat. Since these cant be deleted I assume they are running (possibly as services - though I could'nt find them in the services area).

Any suggestions to get the whole mess out of my system so I can start over with an install?

To delete everything - reboot and delete the Aware IM folder manually. JBoss and Tomcat should not be running - either as services or as processes.

When exactly does the installation hang? Did it ask you to provide the credentials of the MySQL account? Did it ask you to test the settings? You said yes and it hung? Is this what happened? (we just tested it again under Windows XP and 2000 with the latest MySQL and everything was fine). Could you try again?

Thanks for the feedback guys - I was able to uninstall completely and then re-install. The system hangs when testing the Db link! Every time, on my set-up.

I was able to install if I didn’t say OK to the Db test.

I did just re-install after the hang - without uninstalling and got multiple errors such as failure to install FontManager.dll. I assume these were already installed and perhaps locked by a running service?

Any way - looks like the system is up and running and I can get to the config screen and other parts of the system. Just got to figure out how to use it now.

This is such a paradigm shit from the procedural development in VB / VBA and MSAccess that I am used to that I am totally challenged to find a starting point so far.

I have read the quick tour and the document setting up the library app - but I really need to run something even more basic.

I'll post again with what I need to see if I can get any help with the basics (the 780 odd page manual is a bit daunting in itself!).

When you get used to the concepts read the "Configuration Case Study" document that explains how the sampe application is configured.
