SQL Server Express 2005 or MSDE?

Hi Folks - wondered if anyone had feedback on whether I should be using MSDE or the later SQL Express as a starting point for an AwareIM project.

Appreciate any feedback.

Derby (the default database) should be more than sufficient for a start. Either of the ones you mentioned should be fine too.

I was toying with MySQL and MSSQL as the target Db as I'd be using one or the other of these for other developments too (not just with AwareIM).

I have MSSQL and MySQL on my development machine back home, but I started the install process on my current PC (I am in an overseas office at the moment) for SQL Express - and its a quagmire!

To install the SQL tool you need .NET Framework 2 or 3, to run that you need MSXML.6, to install that you need MSI3.0, to get MSI3.0 you need to go through the MS Genuine Advantage install.

This last step broke one of my servers earlier this year and it took arm wrestling with MS to get them to understand it was a genuine install - not about to go through that again - specially on a remote PC as I am currently!

I'll stick with MySQL and run under LINUX when I deploy!
