Library Application

Hello Support.

Would it be possible to get some information on the server (including country location) and the database that is being used to host this demo application?

This is a dedicated server hosted by GoDaddy (www.godaddy.com). Our experience with GoDaddy has been very positive and we thoroughly recommend them to anyone who wants to host Aware IM applications.

We also had a Virtual Private Server (VPS) with them and it was fine too. We decided to go with the dedicated server because it was a little faster than VPS (obviously). But a VPS solution with GoDaddy should be quite acceptable for most users who do not want to spend more money on the dedicated server.

If anyone wants to go with VPS we recommend a Windows server - it is a lot simpler to manage than Linux. Although, if you are used to Linux you can use Linux server as well (it is usually slightly cheaper than Windows).

There are many VPS hosts available. We chose GoDaddy because it is relatively inexpensive, has Windows server (that we like) and is easy to setup and manage.

Hi Support.

I'm in the process of setting up a VPS / VDS with Godaddy for hosting Aware IM and have opted to use Windows Server 2003 and did not include a Plesk control panel.

When Aware Support was hosting the library demo on the virtual private server, was a Plesk control panel used? Would it be necessary if my application is for our company departments use?

No, Plesk is not necessary. The server can be managed using the Remote Desktop on Windows.

By the way, setting up a domain on the server is not required either. An IP address is sufficient to use Aware IM applications hosted on the server.
