Need to have a DISPLAY MESSAGE triggered on field changed

I have an attribute called Selected. It is a Yes/No field. When the user changes the check box, I need to have a DISPLAY MESSAGE conditionally displayed. Of course, I can not have any user interaction attached to a rule, so I am trying to figure out the best way to accomplish this:

I could have Javascript trigger the process instead of a rule, but wondering if you smart guys (and gals) have a better, easier way to do this.

One way to do this is to start a process after save (there is an option for this)
