take best 1 without order by is it random?

Suppose I have 8 or 20 or 100 records matching the criteria for example record BO item contains "test" and I use take best 1 will it pick up a random from 8/20/100 items in pick best 1? I hope it does pick a random number and not first or last.

That SQL statement is just passed on to the backend.
So I would investigate your SQL documentation to see

My understanding is that it would select the first one if you use TAKE BEST 1. You can control which instance appears first in query by using ORDER BY.

SQL will determine which INDEX and what method is used if more than one table is joined, so you can assume you will get the same results each time. I.E. FIND MYBO WHERE MYBO.customer = LoggedInRegularUser.customer TAKE BEST 1 will use the index (or create an index) on the customer attribute. so if you have an index with customerNumber, ID then it will take the lowest ID that matches the customer each time. There are ways to create a random # if you want.

Thank you All! Yes I need to pick random from 20/100 or 200 items in aware IM(I know how to generate random() but I need pickrandomoneitem(setofitems-20 or 200 or 350)

After giving it a good thought and having a tea with coffee at the same time I found a good fully working elegant way to pick a random value.

Just by using below query and then calling EXEC SP ‘proc1’ OF SQLServer WITH ‘@param1’=1,’@param2’=2 RETURN
SomeObject I am now able to pick any random value in aware IM! Aware Im with stored proc is really a very powerfull combination...
