Rule (Dynamic) to validate user input.

I have buisness rules on an object form, set to dynamic, that validate user input on a field. I have a master Vendor object and when a user enters the Vendor number on a log form, it validates against the master file. This works just fine. If the user enters a valid Vendor Number, the rule retuns the Vendor Name to the form. It's definned as (Condition) Field Value WAS CHABGED then (action1)FIND Vendor from master and (Action2) apply the Vendor Name back to the form.

The issue is I'm not seeing how to REPORT ERROR when the Vendor is NOT found. the FIND has to be part of the actions based on the CHANGED condition. So Far I have

Rule Name = Find Vendor
Condition = VendorLog.Vendor WAS CHANGED
Action1 = FIND VendorMstr WHERE VendrMstr.VENDOR = VendorLog.Vendor
Action2 = VendorLog.VendorName = VendorMstr.VENDOR_VNAME

So whats the setup on NOT finding the Vendor Number?

Create a process with rules for finding and setting VendorName
Call the process from the BO rule

SEARCH_COUNT will be your best friend (besides your wife)

Have these 3 rules

FIND VENDOR WHERE ....
IF SEARCH_COUNT = 0 THEN REPORT ERROR ......
(if 2 is triggered, there are 0 matches then the program will NOT continue, so rule 3 will be what you had after your fined.

Does this hold true if the rules are on the form and not in a process? I did swith to a process because I thought the rules were NOT following in order (unordered) in the form.

However I also found when in the form, when I did the find of the master table in rule one, and then referenced it in rule 2, I would get the "You have referenced and object....) dialog.

In the meantime, I'm good.

It can be in a rule (and probably belongs there.)

The times you need to create a process if if you need multiple lines, I.e. Multiple IF statements, or, if you need to wait for some process to finish before going to the next line of code.
