How to find a BO and put it in context

Hi,

I want to find a BO and if it exists, alter some attributes. If it does not exist create a new one.

I tried it like this:

If EXISTS aBO Where ( some criteria) Then
aBO.Description = 'found'
Else
CREATE NEW aBO With aBo.Description='new'

The EXISTS does find my BO, but puts it not in contect, so I cannot change attributed.

How can i find a Bo and put it in context ?

IF EXISTS just tests for existence.

To bring into context use

FIND BO WHERE BO.Attribute = AttributeValue

You can combine:

IF EXISTS BO WHERE BO.Attribute=Value THEN
FIND BO WHERE...

Alternatively

FIND BO WHERE ...
Then immediately in next rule
IF SEARCH_COUNT>0 THEN
Do stuff

Hi Pointswell,

The first solution does not work.

If Exists aBO Then
FIND aBO

Now comes the problem editing because you cannot have more than one rul after a Then clause like a 'normal' programming tool like C#.
Else
CREATE NEW

But the second solution can work. I will try that.

If your find will produce more than one record then you need to use a sub process to carry out whatever actions you want to do.

Create a process use aBO as an input. It will then process one record at a time. That will create a loop while you have unprocessed records.

FIND aBO where [condition] Then
AnotherProcess

AnotherProcess receives aBO as its input
IF aBO.colour=‘Blue’ then ...
Else IF ...

When it finishes in this sub process it will return to the calling process

Agree it can become a bit harder to follow.

I use numbering to keep my processes and sub-processes together.

ProcessName_000
ProcessName_010 (subprocess of 000)
ProcessName_100 the next step after 000

If it’s a really involved process I use four digits

I have found that Display Under is very convenient for locating Sub Processes "Under" Parent Processes.
It helps a lot.

When using the Configurator that does work - the benefit of using naming and numbering is that when you are looking through logs you can tell where in the process you are.

Rather than doing
IF EXISTS ..
FIND

You should do this:
FIND BO WHERE ...
IF SEARCH_COUNT = 0 THEN
CREATE ...

This way it is much more efficient as the query is only executed once.
