I lost a [big] contract job a few months ago (during Aware conference time), where the company decided to save some money to stay with the old design and code written in PHP and not to move to the next gen of Web apps.
Their ENTIRE business runs off of software. , and yet they don't see the value of software and software engineer. 🙁

Well, a mjaor portion of the specs were to integrate with MS365, MSDynamic and MSCRM365. Since ASP.Net Core has full integration SDK for them, we suggested ASP.Net Core and rewrite their old legacy system in .Net Core and Azure Active Directory Services for the Authentication and authorization.

Simply put, the man in charge, would go with the least expensive one, since the less he paid, the bigger his bonus was, and didn't care what the real solution was. So, the PHP guys, decided to re-do the UI with the new fancy JS libraries out there and keep the backend the same.

Aware had no chance in this bid, due the to client's requirements.

Therein lies the problem, short termism from the board to the floor.

If you are constantly measuring the bottom line rather than value returned you will continue to make bad decisions and worse incentivise managers to make bad decisions.

Why do you say AwareIM had no chance for this project?

It sounds like your potential customer decided to put a nice band-aid on a legacy system?
