1st Q Is it possible to use IF in a Conditional Column

If Yes
2nd Q Can you use IS DEFINED in Conditional Column?

I have a Query that shows Addresses

The BO has an owner Contact, but I want to be able to show related Contacts Addresses together. While I am creating the Contact record I want to show a Column with both Related Contacts addresses and the New Contact

The code I was using is:

IF Contact_Address.ob_Contact IS UNDEFINED THEN 'New Contact' ELSE IF Contact_Address.ob_Contact IS DEFINED THEN Contact_Address.sc_Contact

But it is giving me an unhelpful error

Invalid Calculation: Syntax error at token "." (column 2).

I've discovered that calculated columns has VERY limited functionality. It thinks ENTIRELY in terms of simple calculations (which is why you got that message). It's too bad because it could have solved a bunch of problems for me if it was more flexible.

Calculated Grid Columns seemed like a really cool thing in 8.1, until you realize you cannot Filter or Sort on that column.
Imagine using separate FNAME & LNAME fields.
So in a grid, instead of 2 columns, you make 1 Calc column.
GREAT!!! except you can't even sort on that column now.
If the data is in the Kendo grid already, you certainly should be able to sort it.
Hopefully, he will be able to put more time into coding functionality of Calc Columns in the future.
