aware_support wroteThe question is whether Postgres supports some SQL features that Aware IM needs - most importantly, the ability to rename and change type of a column (ALTER COLUMN).
Last time we looked at it (and I admit this was a while ago) Postgres was a mess - not only did it not support the above, but the installation was a mess, there were no tools etc. If this has changed now we may have another look at it.
Hi Vlad;
Just to shed some light on your concern, which I did the following checking.
In .Net, MSFT has created it's own ORM called Entity Framework (EF). As usual, MSFT makes their own stuff work pretty good and when it comes to other products you run into break wall.
For example EF has a very nice integration with MSSQL and almost every developer prefers using MSSQL mainly for it's integration. Not so much for others like MySQL.
However to my surprise, when I did the checking, they claim ALL the EF functionalities work for PostgreSQL DB just like MSSQL. I had not seen this type of claim not even with Oracle or MySQL.
So this strong claim, might be a sign that PostgreSQL has reached very close to MSSQL system.
My only question would be, they define it as "Object Relational DB" than "Relational DB". Does that mean, you could simply bypass the mapping in your ORM module and buy yourself more performance?
I had forgotten to post this as I saw it in the document and if Aware cares about:
Computed Columns (On Add or Update)
PostgreSQL does not support computed columns.
