Renumbering all records in a Table

Hello,

This may be a simple process so I could be making harder than it needs to be!
I need to renumber all the records in the Inventory Master BO.
I did a FIND ALL InventoryMaster OrderBy InventoryMaster.Description
Then called a process to update each record with
InventoryMaster.IM_IndexNo=MAX InventoryMaster.IM_IndexNo+1
(note: this is NOT the unique index # on the table)

This did work but the inventory Numbers are not in sequential order by description.
Is there a simple way to renumber this table even if I have to do it in MYSQL workbench and write a small script to do it.

Issue resolved.
The problem was in the inventory description field.
When Sorted By inventory description it sorts based on the ASCII character set so if a description was all lower case it would not be sorted correctly. All descriptions have been corrected so now it is sorting correctly and renumbered all the inventory items sequentially by inventory description ASC.

or, do this with a simple stored procedure and use ROW_NUMBER function. I can show you if you want.
